The first Center Barrel replacement was done on a Frankenstein aircraft at NAV Air Depot North Island. After successfully completing many Center Barrel replacements some of the work was diverted to Jacksonville

This would be absolutely great if it could be used on a R18 drone or Revolver 860 drone. This would give 2 miles of standoff plus loiter time for a drone. It's a win.

I suspect this system will evolve as the Hornet evolves, with future upgrades, and of course the same applies to the F-35s. At some point I expect that the aircraft will have machine vision and SEE the carrier deck, possibly with IR markers placed on it, to give the aircraft complete real time 3D situational awareness of the location and state of the carrier and landing deck, making bad landings virtually a thing of the past, even in the worst flight conditions. What REALLY impresses me is that someone figured out exactly what words to pick that describes the system and also makes MAGIC CARPET its acronym. He must have spent quite some time figuring that one out!
